Summer vacations are the best time to plan a getaway to kid-friendly summer destinations. This period is quite long and could get boring if children spend it locked up at home.
Why not allow our kids the exposure they deserve during this time?
As a travel-loving family, we’re always on the hunt for the best summer destinations with our two kids.
From nature’s wonderland to amusement parks, I’ve always had a blast traveling with my young ones.
Here are a few summer getaway experiences we’ve had with our kids:
This summer, we ventured to the breathtaking Grand Canyon National Park. The Park offered multiple kid-friendly activities to engage our little ones, and we could use the time to admire nature’s grandeur.
Our stay was only 3 days because we had a few family commitments afterwards. However, we made sure that every moment of our getaway was eventful.
We enrolled our 8-year-old in the Junior Ranger Program. He absolutely loved learning about the culture and history of the park, and completed all the activities successfully which earned him his badge.
We also took a rafting trip down the Colorado River. Our 4-year-old girl enjoyed a calm pontoon boat ride, while our older one had a blast kayaking.
Trekking isn’t the highlight of our trip to Grand Canyon National Park. My little ones got tired very soon and we had to return back to the lodge halfway.
Staying at the Yavapai Lodge was delightful. The stay area was clean and the staff was very co-operative.
And you know these kids – always hungry at the most awkward hour. That’s where their s’mores kit offer came in. Gathering around the campfire, making s’mores, and sharing stories created precious memories.
I’d heard that Washington had a lot of kid-friendly places to offer us, so we spent our summer 2023 there. Our getaway was quite spontaneous so we did not get the time to pre-plan stuff, so a few mishaps were a must.
We took our children to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. My kids absolutely adored the giant pandas and even after an entire day of looking at animals, my kids refused to leave the place. We had to promise them pre-dinner ice creams to get them to go with us.
The Beauvoir Outdoor Playground was perfect for burning off the excessive energy my kids possess. However, my young one scraped her knee – nothing a quick cuddle couldn’t fix.
The International Spy Museum intrigued my older one, who was seven back then.
I really wanted to take my minions to the National Children’s Museum but we later learnt that the place is closed on Tuesdays. Next time maybe?
Evenings were magical as we strolled through the city, taking in the monuments illuminated at night. Best of all, these adventures didn’t break the bank. DC truly has something for everyone!
When I say the term Disneyland, no need to imply its kid-friendliness remains. That 2023 getaway was a heaven-on-Earth situation for my kids and their ride-loving mother. .
The kids’ faces lit up hugging their favorite characters, from Mickey to Elsa. We rode everything from the teacups to Space Mountain, with my husband capturing every joyful scream.
The parades and fireworks left us all in awe. Disneyland truly has something for everyone, from toddler-friendly rides to thrilling roller coasters.
We stayed at Disneyland Resort and the view from our room was magical for sure.
I can’t wait to return when the kids are older and can experience even more. It’s the perfect place for magical family memories and endless fun at any age.
In conclusion, these summer destinations offer unforgettable adventures for families. From exploring the Grand Canyon to the magic of Disneyland, there’s something for every age and interest.
Just remember to plan well when taking your kids on similar getaways!
Happy Travels!
